Do you follow your heart? Listen to your intuition, trust your inner-wisdom, give yourself permission to shine?
If not, you aren’t alone. Self love and appreciation are difficult for most people. It seems far easier to love and believe in others than it is to love and believe in ourselves. And yet, self love and appreciation are vital to our well-being and our ability to love others. It makes sense that we need to have a loving relationship with ourselves before we can have one with anyone else. We can’t give what we don’t have, if we don’t have love for ourselves how can we give it to others?
As Marianne Williamson says in A Course In Miracles:
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
Our unworthy, less than feelings are not who we truly are. Get quiet, go inside, connect with your deeper self, your wisdom and creativity and you will know the truth of this. You are more, much more and only you can give yourself permission to shine!
I created this short clip from the What Your Body Wants To Hear, Self Love programme to help you connect with your inner guidance, intuition, creativity and wisdom. I hope you enjoy it.

Love and appreciation, Barbara.
p.s. As I wrote this article my six month old border collie, Finn was galloping around the room. Nuzzling and fussing and wanting to play. I told him he wasn’t helping me to write, but his sense of fun, aliveness and joy in being, melts me every time. I can’t stop my heart from opening wide with love and gratitude that such a joyful soul is here and wants to play with me. He knows how to be in the moment and how to shine. We have much to learn from our animals, not least how to love, play and be completely whole, conscious and in the moment.
