Why Guided Meditation For Successful Pain Management Is Not Just About Relaxing…

Guided meditation for successful pain management takes much more than just relaxing! It’s about gently releasing the emotional source of your pain. Creating a quiet, focussed space to allow your body to let go and begin to heal. Moving step by step, through acknowledging painful emotions, opening your mind to the possibility of accepting and releasing them. Only then can you replace those painful, negative beliefs, thoughts and emotions with positive, healing messages.  The power of audio guided meditations is that you can listen as you relax and move into a Theta state, thereby accessing your subconscious mind. That is where the true healing power of your mind lies.

If you try to force things to change you can pretty much bet nothing will change.  Trying to use will-power without addressing your emotional issues will have you on a hamster wheel going nowhere fast.

If, on the other hand, you use skillfully crafted, very specific affirmations which start out by accepting where you are – you are in pain, now is the time to be kind and gentle with yourself. Simply accept that, don’t try to fight or resist it – fighting and resisting will only ever create more fighting and resisting and more pain.

Using affirmations (and clearing statements) in the correct sequence, i.e. acknowledging, accepting, becoming open to the possibility of healing then embracing the positive in a gentle, force free and loving way will take you a lot further. Often when people adopt this attitude of self-acceptance of their physical condition they reach much deeper levels of awakening and self-discovery on spiritual levels too. This makes perfect sense when you realise that all pain has a message for you. So while none of us like being in pain, in the longer term, many people will tell you that their pain was their greatest gift and greatest teacher.

Back Pain

I have gone from dragging myself across the floor every morning in complete agony and dosing myself up on painkillers, to being able to walk completely unaided and pain free and drug free. My family and friends have always known me to have a bad back. The condition has affected me since childhood. But over the last few months it became progressively worse until I was unable to walk unaided. Each morning I would crawl on my hands and knees to the living room, where I would lie on the floor waiting for strong prescribed pain medication to take effect. The medication always makes me drowsy and unable to drive or work as well as I would like to. I feel much better tonight mentally as well. A few days ago after moving my father in law to a nursing home, we had to clear out his apt. This is the apt I have taken care of him for almost a year. Clearing out his apt was filled with so many emotions. I developed almost debilitating left hip pain while moving his stuff out. Now two days later after cleaning up a day ago, I woke up with pain in the morning but my nightfall tonight, it is almost all gone. I was in so much pain I was crying and could only drag my leg around all yesterday. Even today earlier in the day, there was still intense pain at times. Stomach Problems

Just wanted you to know how the meditation for helping me and my stomach has begun to affect my behaviour. I realise I have a habit of internalising negative emotions and, in the spirit of ‘clearing all ways in which I have stored indigestable emotions’ found myself doing something I have never done before…… I think it’s simply called standing up for yourself!   Yesterday at work I felt I was unfairly treated and found myself nursing the emotional wound all night and even had a dream in which I did indeed stood up for myself. You may recall I was helped immensely by your guided meditation for releasing grief and trauma so I thought I would continue the healing process by freeing myself from needing the Omezrapole medication which I take for acid reflux.

It is early days yet but I listen to the meditation tape instead of taking the medication and I know my stomach is feeling the benefit of all the loving and liberating thoughts that I am sending it. It’s great to feel I can have a relationship with my own tummy and, like a mum, comfort it as I would a child.

I do continue to take medication if symptoms dictate and am grateful for that but it is wonderfully empowering to begin the self healing process.

“The “attack” if you will subsided and went away certainly as quickly (1/2 a minute) as the cold water. Hi Barbara, I’m a new subscriber 3/4 months, 76 years old, general health good, no medications. My most troubling health issue is skin/dermatology eg Brachioradial and probably Pruritus etc etc from mild to quite bothersome from time to time (every few days I have a good “flair” up). Prior to finding you web site I was treating my various skin conditions with various lotions and for the Brachioradial / on my arms the Best was very cold water for 4/5 minutes, actually brings immediate relief, lasting a few hours. Prior to finding your site I was using a Meditation app from Meditation Oasis and had been using it generally prior to going to bed/sleep a few times a week, I found it pretty good, but had no real long term experience a year or so with meditation. I’m sure I bumped into your site probably Googling around skin problems, issues etc etc etc. Subsequently I purchased your Beyond Affirmations most particularly Soothe Your Skin and also Healing For Your Heart.
I’d like to pass on a couple of my findings, most specifically to the Brachioradial (when it flares up it’s almost an attack) while having an “attack/itchiness/arms for what ever reason I decided instead of the cold water treatment I’d try your app, I actually used the the Relaxation and well being (15.58) introduction Meditation the “attack” if you will subsided and went away certainly as quickly (1/2 a minute) as the cold water. I’ve repeated this 20+ times in the past month eg works every time? Actually I find it more convenient than the long Soothe Your Skin, whatever works.
I wanted to pass this along because this Brachioradial can be a real problem for many seniors and there is very, very little the dermatologist really know about it or more importantly how to treat it (mine for certain is a pinched nerve in my cervical 5/6 disc). Anyway please pass along if anyone asks, one thing for certain trying what I did certainly can’t cause “any” harm. Mr G.K.

A lot of the pain in my neck and at the base of my skull had GONE! And that night I slept soundly which was wonderful as the previous two nights I’d hardly slept due to the agonising pain. You are about to take the trip of a lifetime and are hit with a tummy bug.

When these things happen we often curse our fate, complain about our luck or grumble about our bodies.

Are we cursed or doomed or dysfunctional in some way? Are we deliberately sabotaging ourselves or is something much deeper and wiser going on?

Those of you who know me, know how passionate I am about teaching your body is not your enemy! But if you don’t understand why these things happen or what messages they have for you, you could easily believe your body IS your enemy.

Time and time again I hear stories of this kind of thing happening and without exception, when I look at the circumstances, I can see the underlying message.

Three friends of mine broke or sprained their ankles when they had either moved to a new school and felt frightened and out of their depth. Or faced a huge change in the direction their lives were taking. I wrote in depth about ankle injuries in my article Why People Break, Sprain and Otherwise Damage Their Ankles.

Lower back pain is another great one! Job insecurity, birthdays, retirement or even children leaving home can trigger this because these occasions confront us with our own mortality. What’s the best thing to do when you are faced with illness, injury or accident at precisely the “wrong” moment?

The first thing to realise is that it struck at exactly the RIGHT moment! It struck to let you know that some part of you is feeling scared, is out of its comfort zone or is being reminded of a previous time it felt that way.

So often when we are making big changes in our lives, our bodies step in to tell us that an unresolved emotional issue has been triggered. Your body is actually doing you a favour! The illness or accident can give you some time to stop and think, to do the emotional work that needs to be done and to allow the rest of you to catch up with the new direction or life challenge you are facing.

How To Speed Up Your Recovery

Why Pain, Illness or Injury Strike at Exactly the "Wrong" Moment! Look after yourself.

Nurture Yourself! Be kind to yourself! The best way to speed up your recovery is to thank your body. Don’t try to fight or resist the pain. Deliberately and consciously go into the pain, let it know you are listening to it and are open to hearing what has come to teach you.

Try to see the bigger picture, yes you may have been inconvenienced by it. But it provides you with a great opportunity to know yourself better, perhaps to rest and reassess your situation and to learn and grow. Your body has great wisdom, it’s much better and less painful to go with it, love and learn from it than to fight and struggle with it.

Talk To Your Pain

Talking to your pain might seem like a strange concept but I am willing to bet that you already do it!

When you become aware of your self-talk you realise that when you are in pain you tend to complain about it, if not to others, certainly to yourself. You may grumble about it, feel resentful and even angry that it prevents you from doing things you want to do.

You judge and criticise yourself and your body. You tell others what a “bad back” or “bad hip” you have and how much you suffer with it.

If you have a name for your pain, a diagnosis, it is worth remembering diagnosis is simply a word. It is just a word used to describe a symptom or symptoms showing up in the body. Diagnosis is only a name, agreed upon to identify specific symptoms.

A diagnosis only has as much power as YOU give it! When you talk about it and identify yourself with it, you give it more power, you give it more energy. When you talk about it, you are affirming you have it!

If you do any of these things, you are already talking to your pain and you are affirming it! The great news is that now that you are aware of this you can change it!

You can change it this very minute by changing the way you talk to the part of your body that is pain. Think of it as a small child, puppy or kitten scared and in pain. Instead of complaining, focus on sending it warm, loving thoughts, if you can (you might not be ready for this step yet) thank it for everything it has done for you and for the message it is sending you. By doing this you change the energy around it instantly.
