“We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?”
A Return to Love
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’
Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. ―
The first time I heard this was when my Reiki Master read it out to us at a Shoden Reiki I class. I didn’t even hear it all!
All I heard was “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’. I literally didn’t hear any more! I must have zoned out. I remember being a bit dazed and confused, it was simply too much for my low self-esteem self to allow in.
Creativity, confidence and self expression can all be crushed by self-doubt, lack of self-confidence and that fierce inner-critic. We need to find a way to quieten the inner-critic, reduce self-doubt, low self-esteem & self-worth and give ourselves the gift of loving kindness, compassion, gratitude and forgiveness. Only then can you boost your self-confidence, creativity, intuition, inner-wisdom, trust in yourself and allow yourself to flourish.
My cognitive dissonance was so great it didn’t even let me hear the words! Writer’s block, getting that job or promotion, telling someone you love them or excelling at your sport can all be blocked by one thing! Lack of self-worth.
How far can you get through that passage and how does it make you feel? Most of us were not brought up to love, value and appreciate ourselves. This exercise gives you a great way to test yourself and see where you are in relation to loving and appreciating yourself!
If you didn’t get too far through the passage or it didn’t feel true read or tap through our free Affirmations For Self-Love, Self-Esteem & Self-Confidence (parts 1 & 2) then read it through again. Did you get a bit further? How does it feel now?
After working through those clearings, afformations & affirmations I hope that like Sydney and Victoria you will feel at ease with yourself, your self-esteem will be boosted and you will be able to give yourself a compliment and truly mean it!
