The True Key To Emotionally Healthy, Permanent Weight Loss
The true key to permanent, emotionally healthy weight loss is almost universally overlooked. But when you realise it, it is incredibly simple, straightforward and logical.
What the true key is NOT:-
The true key is much deeper, simpler and more powerful than any of these. The final piece of the puzzle you’ve been waiting for lies in your underlying beliefs and emotions.
What you are attached to or believe to be true in your subconscious mind is vastly more powerful than anything you try to do using the will-power or intellect of your conscious mind.
The subconscious is where the root causes and the answers to all weight and body image lie.
In many cases there is an underlying pain or fear, grief, danger, trauma or loss which your body is trying to protect you from by laying down and holding on to fat.
In a surprising number of cases, a happy memory can cause emotional eating. Somewhere deep inside part of you equates food with love and safety. Perhaps you had a happy birthday party and a lovely birthday cake, or your father took you to the beach and bought you ice cream. Perhaps soon after, your father left you. Now you think you crave ice cream after emotional loss, but it’s actually love, warmth and safety you crave.
What Was Going On In Your Life The Last Time You Were At Your Ideal Weight?
Your Body Might Still Be Trying To Protect You From It!
A few years ago in my Emotional Freedom Technique Practice, I specialised in helping people with weight issues. I was fascinated by the various, sometimes complex, reasons we hold on to excess weight.
It’s now widely known that putting on and carrying excess weight can be a protective reaction to trauma. Using E.F.T. it is a fairly simple matter to clear the feelings and emotions around the trauma and allow the body to come back into balance.
What is less well- known is that holding on to excess weight can also be a reaction to a happy memory. A skilled E.F.T. practitioner should be able to help you untangle and heal those feelings and emotions too.
Another, less well-known, aspect of why we hold on to excess weight is that something traumatic happened when you were last at your ideal weight. This can be quite complex to unravel, especially if the trauma is deeply hidden.
One lady I worked with, we’ll call her Sally, used a well-known national weight loss plan and had great success up to a point. That point was 11st 11 lbs and she simply could not get past it! It was like a brick wall that she just could not get over.
Despite following the weight loss plan to the letter, she could never get beyond 11st 11lbs! That was when she turned to me for help.
After a bit of exploratory work and a lot of tapping, I asked what had been going on in her life when she was last at her ideal weight. She told me she was at college, she loved her course, had a great social life and a loving relationship. Everything had been wonderful. It seemed we’d hit another dead end.

We kept tapping, but nothing I tried resonated with her. All of a sudden she exclaimed, “Oh My God! Now I remember”. A deeply hidden memory suddenly surfaced. She remembered discovering the perfect boyfriend had been unfaithful and she, in a fit of misery, had taken a bottle of whisky and walked into the sea one night. Nothing traumatic there then???
Once we had discovered this memory, it was fairly straight forward to clear the emotions and trauma from it with E.F.T.
After clearing the emotions around that memory and maintaining the same weight loss regime, she flew easily beyond the dreaded 11st 11lbs and reached her ideal weight.
Another lady I worked with had a similar experience. The last time she’d been at her ideal weight, she’d become pregnant and as a single mother struggled to survive financially. There was no way she wanted to go back to that! Again, clearing the emotional traumas surrounding that experience, cleared the way for her to go on to achieve her ideal weight.
In cases like these, will power, exercise and strict diets are just not going to cut it because your body, in its wisdom, is trying to protect you. Which brings me back to my favourite saying, “Your body is not your enemy, it is always, always doing the very best it can to protect you”.
“I just wasn’t hungry any longer. I had used your Food meditation the other night for the first time (I always feel guilty about food choices even if all I’ve had is a bagel lol and I find it difficult to know when I’m full, etc.) Well this morning I laid out my breakfast and was happily eating it and then with about 3/4 of it done, I suddenly decided I didn’t want anymore, I just wasn’t hungry any longer. This might seem very normal for most people but that doesn’t happen to me. lol So I was very surprised and pleased! lolJust wanted you to know how effective your meditations are. And by the way, all previous attempts I’ve made at meditating (before purchasing your meditations) have been an abject failure for me, thus why I am really overjoyed to find something effective that makes me WANT to meditate! 😉 lol” A.W.

(When you heal the emotional drivers behind food cravings the cravings are reduced or even completely eliminated!)
Our relationship with food is intimately connected with how emotionally safe, loved and nourished we feel. An increase in appetite may result from emotional pain, the need to fill that painful, empty place with something. The something you are really looking for is love but in a perceived absence of love you make do with food. A lack of appetite can indicate a desire to retreat from life, nurturing the hurt inside us again indicating a need for love. Not feeling safe can lead you to put on weight and keep it on!
Our relationship with food can be complex. Powerful emotions of enjoyment and guilt get in to the mix. “Expert” advice about what is and is not healthy seems to change daily resulting in confusion and mixed emotions.
Change your thinking, change the way you feel about food, bring peace into the relationship you have with food. Not only will you feel better but your body will respond.

Today I want to write about the unseen dynamics that go on around social eating. Eating together is one of the most enjoyable, bonding, sharing experiences we can have but if you have emotional issues around over-eating, it can be very challenging.
If you approach social eating without having addressed your underlying emotional issues, you are going to struggle – to say the least.
One mother of two young children I spoke with (but didn’t work with!) explained that she had signed up for a very expensive meal delivery service. This service sent her calorie controlled meals every day. She didn’t have to think about what to buy or cook and she didn’t have to count the calories, so far so good. However, in order to resist the temptation of picking from her kid’s plates, she ate alone in the kitchen while her family ate together at the dining table. In order to resist temptation, she completely isolated herself and missed precious family time with her husband and children. Going out for a romantic dinner with her husband was out of the question as was having a girls night out with her friends.
I think you can see where this is going and can probably guess how long that kind of self-denial would last.
Having spent a lot of money on this ‘weight loss’ system and using will-power alone, she was pretty miserable. There was absolutely nothing positive to aim for and her unresolved, subconscious emotional drivers would probably ensure she wasn’t going to be able to sustain this lonely regime for very long.
On the completely opposite end of the spectrum, I worked with a lady who’s results astounded me.
We worked one to one, addressing the roots of her emotional eating with E.F.T. and she confided in me that she was worried that changing her outlook and attitude towards food might ruin a special friendship she had. She and a girlfriend had a regular girls night date where they ordered Chinese food, chatted and laughed and really enjoyed themselves. After dinner, her friend’s daughter would bring home snacks which they would all enjoy together. These evenings were really special to her and she didn’t want to lose them.
To be completely honest, at the time I didn’t know how the work we did together would affect these special evenings. I was thrilled and amazed when she told me what had happened the first ‘girls night’ after our sessions.
The evening started out as normal, chatting, laughing and having a good time. Controlling how much she ate wasn’t even on her mind, she was up for a good, fun night. What she hadn’t explained to me before, was that they always went back for second helpings and ate the food until it was gone! After that, they’d get stuck into the snacks the friend’s daughter brought over.
On this night, however, she didn’t go back for second helpings nor was she drawn to eat any of the snacks, she just felt happily full. She wasn’t using will-power, she hadn’t even consciously thought of how much she was or was not eating, she just felt full. This I would have expected, but I didn’t expect the next part! Her friend (who didn’t even know about our E.F.T. sessions and certainly hadn’t done any!) didn’t go back for second helpings either, nor did she eat as many of the snacks her daughter brought over.
By changing her inner-world, energy and attitude and without saying a word, my client’s inner changes changed the dynamics of the evening.
Whatever emotional drivers and dynamics had been at play had changed and this change affected everyone. It didn’t happen on a conscious level but on the much more powerful energetic level and best of all, none of it involved self-denial, self-discipline or will-power!
This really goes to the root of this work, we don’t want to be miserable, micro manage ourselves, struggle with will-power and expensive weight loss solutions. We want to effect change on a deep, subconscious level, by healing the emotional drivers behind the behaviour. We want this to be easy, natural and organic and most importantly we still want to be able to enjoy spending time with our loved ones, eating together and having fun!
How Healthy Weight Loss Is Like Teaching a Dog To Sit
I’ve written a lot about weight loss recently because I think it’s a very misunderstood area. For some reason many of us who are well versed in energy work, universal laws, law of attraction etc. don’t realise that the same laws apply to weight and body image issues – they do!
Before I moved into Energy Therapies, I trained in Dog Behaviour. We used kind, effective, reward based training never allowing the dog to fail and very rarely, if ever, using the word “no”.
The trick was to take the dog’s mind where you wanted the body to go, quietly, gently and without force. For example, to teach the dog to sit you hold a treat in front of and just above the dog’s face. If you have their attention and position the treat correctly, their bottom will eventually lower to the floor – success! Most importantly, you have not used force, you have not created an unpleasant experience nor have you created resistance or conflict – even bigger success!!
The very same can be said about successful weight loss. If you get your mind, in our case, the subconscious mind, to go where you want your body to go, without using force (will-power) or creating resistance or conflict, you are on your way to success.
Unlike dogs, most of us already have conflict and resistance in our minds, so first it is essential to clear out all the old emotional debris and this is where energy therapies and affirmations come into their own.
“I had used your Food meditation the other night for the first time (I always feel guilty about food choices even if all I’ve had is a bagel and I find it difficult to know when I’m full, etc.) Well this morning I laid out my breakfast and was happily eating it and then with about 3/4 of it done, I suddenly decided I didn’t want any more, I just wasn’t hungry any longer. This might seem very normal for most people but that doesn’t happen to me. So I was very surprised and pleased!”
At a subconscious level that meditation had eased the emotional drivers that were causing her to over-eat. With them out of the way, it was then completely effortless for her body to tell her when it was full and for her not to finish her breakfast.
