You Can Heal Your Life

The first time I read Louise Hay’s “You Can Heal Your Life” I didn’t like it!

I disliked it intensely and quite vociferously for many years.

How could I dislike something which later became one of the cornerstones of my ownWhat Your Body Wants To Hear” work?  Those of you who have followed my work or heard my interview “Your Body Is Not Your Enemy” on Soul Searching Radio know that I greatly value this hugely famous best seller nowadays. Many of my fellow therapists and friends refer to it as “the bible” and all my healing meditations are based on the theories found in it.

Let me explain my turnaround.

When I first read “You Can Heal Your Life” I was already working as an Emotional Freedom Technique practitioner. That led me to look for and clear the emotional traumas which always underlie a physical or emotional symptom or psychological block.  We worked with the subconscious mind and the energy system to clear these completely and only then introduced positive statements or affirmations.

Many of the people who come to E.F.T. practitioners are already beaten down by feelings of failure. Some have even been abandoned by conventional medicine and come to us a last resort. So when I saw a book which told people to repeat a positive statement over and over and over and expect to get results without first addressing the underlying emotional causes of their problem, I saw it as an opportunity for these vulnerable people to fail yet again. That was why I disliked it!

However, the theory and probable emotional cause of physical symptoms listed in “You Can Heal Your Life” has always been spot on!  I have never had a symptom or known anyone else to have a symptom for which the emotional explanation in that book has been incorrect. Never! Not once!  I even had a friend who worked as a nurse in numerous hospitals who said the same. She’d never come across a patient who, upon getting to know them better, was not exhibiting symptoms which correlated perfectly with their emotional state. Never! Not once!

The main cause of my dislike for this book was the frustration of knowing that if it was combined with E.F.T. tapping or some other Meridian Energy Therapy it would be pure gold. And it is!  I was delighted when Louise discovered and championed E.F.T. She too recognised the amazing healing power of putting her theory and E.F.T together.

My own “What Your Body Wants To Hear” series of healing meditations uses releasing statements, empowering questions then positive affirmations in sequence. Like “You Can Heal Your Life” it  is made even more powerful by tapping along to the audios or scripts.

If you are new to the idea that your emotions create your physical pain it can feel very strange at first.  Many people struggle against the idea that they have created their pain and that they can heal it. It can be a tough and sometimes lonely journey until you find your tribe. In the meantime “You Can Heal Your Life” can bring you a great deal of clarity, hope and support.  It’s still sitting by my side all these years later.

If you have symptoms of illness, pain or discomfort, use those in your set up statement as you tap on your Side of Hand Point. For example, “Even though I have this cold, I deeply and completely love, accept and forgive myself”. Repeat this three times then tap the Eyebrow Point gently, around ten times, saying “I have this cold”. Move to the Side Of Eye point and repeat, “I have this cold”. Repeat this at all the tapping points finishing off with the Top of Your Head point.

If you don’t have any symptoms but want to give your immune system a boost try tapping a few rounds saying these, or similar statements:- “I know my immune system is doing the most amazing job and I deeply and completely love, accept and thank my immune system”.  “My immune system is fabulous, it knows exactly what it is doing and it keeps me healthy and well. I deeply and completely love and thank my immune system”. “My immune system is powerful, wise and strong.

I am grateful to my fantastic immune system and I deeply and completely love, accept and thank my wonderful immune system for keeping me safe and healthy”. “My immune system is doing the most fantastic job protecting me from all those viruses and bacteria and I deeply and completely love, accept and thank my amazing immune system, thank you, immune system, for everything you do for me”.

As a parent there can be few things that make you feel more helpless and useless than when your premature or sick baby is whisked off in an incubator! You have to stand back whilst your baby is put on a ventilator, wired up to noisy monitors,  poked, prodded and subjected to painful and invasive procedures. 

Your entire being; your biology, your heart and soul are screaming out to love, nurture and protect this precious little scrap, yet you can do nothing!  As a new mother, every nerve, sinew and hormone is programmed to hold, love and nurture the new arrival,.  You know all the interventions, as painful as many of them are, could be life saving. So you have to stand back, let strangers take over and somehow keep a lid on your viscerally raw emotions and instincts, your baby’s life depends on those strangers and there is absolutely nothing you can do. 

Or is there? 

Back in 1992 when I faced this situation, there was nothing I could do. I didn’t know Emotional Freedom Technique or Reiki. I had no way of soothing myself far less helping my daughter.  A bit later we were allowed to put our hands in the incubator, find a tiny piece of flesh which didn’t have a monitor or cannula  on it and touch her but that didn’t compensate for not being able to pick her up, hold her or feed her. 

Back then, like millions of other parents, I used will-power and determination to get through the long days and nights and continue to function. Many medical staff complimented me on how well I coped. Of course I wasn’t really coping, I was simply repressing painful emotions which is never healthy and brings it’s own problems further down the line!

Emotional Freedom Technique is definitely number one on my list of things I wish I’d known back then!

How You Can Help Yourself and Your Baby With Surrogate E.F.T. Tapping

It’s wonderful to see Emotional Freedom Technique becoming more widely known and accepted. It is very quick and easy to learn and amazingly effective even in the hands of complete beginners. Not all teachers know, or will tell you, that E.F.T. can also be done surrogately. You can tap on behalf of someone else even when you are not with them.

As we are using loving intention and energy, time and distance don’t matter. You can tap for your baby no matter where you are!

I won’t speculate on how or why this works, there are many different theories and for the purposes of this article, all I care about is that it helps someone out there.

Firstly Soothe Your Self!

We often project our fears onto others. In such a traumatic situation as the birth of a premature or sick baby you have to soothe yourself first. We are no use to anyone else when we are in deep trauma and shock ourselves.  Your baby feels your emotions and energy so by soothing yourself you also help her.

Three Ways to Tap On Behalf of Your Baby

Tune in to your baby and tap for whatever you feel or can see is upsetting or traumatising them. The obvious ones are of course, pain, fear, isolation and any painful medical interventions.

1. Tap On Your Own Body As Yourself

Simply tap as you normally would, but rather than state you have the problem, use the baby’s name for your set up statement.  “Even though (baby’s name or my baby) has this problem (state problem) I deeply and completely love and accept (baby’s name).  Do the same with your reminder phrase.

2. Tap On Your Own Body As Your Baby

Similar to the method above but sometimes this helps you  tune into how your baby is feeling more accurately.  Bearing in mind how connected you are with your newborn it’s not surprising that you often feel exactly what they are feeling.  Set your intention that you are your baby, then tap around as though you are the baby. “Even though I have this problem” etc. Remember to disconnect and come back to yourself when you are done.

3. Using A Proxy Item To Represent Your Baby

This can be a really useful way to help you focus. Any teddy bear, doll or other toy will do. Simply intend the toy to represent your baby and tap around the points as normal.

The Question of Permission

As a parent you only have the highest and best intentions for your child, your heart and intent are pure and loving. In the higher realms we are all connected, we are all love, we are all one. If you feel the need to ask the baby’s higher self or soul for permission do so but I truly don’t think anything done from such love, care and compassion can ever cause harm.

Affirmations To Ease The Emotional Aspects of Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid Arthritis is an auto-immune dis♥ease where our immune system attacks the membranes of our joints. Movement becomes limited and joints become rigid and painful. Rheumatoid Arthritis is a condition of conflict.

Some of the emotions implicated in Rheumatoid Arthritis are:- Inner rigidity, overly self disciplined, self critical, giving to others but not to self, repressed anger, judgemental, low self esteem, negative or critical, stuck, lack of assertiveness, resentful, bitter, attacking self, lost self, don’t recognise self, something in self you don’t want to see or recognise. Feeling inhibited, unable to act the way you really want to. Destroying yourself with guilt or shame.

Undermining self, criticism, lack of self respect, want to hit out. inhibiting the desire to hit out, Stuck, lifeless, lost sense of purpose, self dislike eating away at us, no point in doing anything. No longer able to do what we did before. No longer active, Can’t/don’t know how/haven’t found a way to be softer, gentler and more appreciative of self. Attacking self, confusion, Don’t recognise self.

Life doesn’t really matter/no longer matters. Guilt, shame, blame, lack of self esteem/respect. Dislike or hatred of self. Refusing to accept help from self or others. Negating our own inner beauty. Undermining love of life. Overly critical, putting self down, disappointed in self or someone else wearing away at you eroding your sense of self worth. Refusal to change, fear of the future, not feeling safe, feeling totally alone, desolation, despair, hopelessness. Trying to prove yourself, Low self worth, Lost the will to live, Crying on the inside, Given up, deep seated grief, Hopeless “it’s no use”.
