It’s that time of year again so I thought a short Emotional Freedom Technique session to help you ease cold symptoms might be useful.
The common cold often arises from the simple belief that there is such a thing as a “Cold Season”. If we buy into this belief it’s pretty certain that we’ll develop a cold! Feelings of overwhelm, being overworked, carrying too much responsibility, being under too much pressure, feeling scattered and not taking time to listen to your body and slow down also often result in us developing colds.
If you are feeling under the weather check to see if you are feeling any of these emotions. That will give you ideas for what to tap on. But you can get started right now by following the suggestions below.
If you are unfamiliar with E.F.T. Just follow the tapping points illustrated below.
Starting at the Side of Hand Point say your set up statement out loud if possible and tap gently on the Side of the Hand with two or three fingers of your other hand.
“Even though I have this cold, I deeply and completely love, accept and forgive myself”. Repeat this three times then tap the Eyebrow Point gently around ten times saying “I have this cold”. Move to the Side Of Eye point and repeat, “I have this cold”. Repeat this at all the tapping points finishing off with the Top of Your Head point.
Return to your Side of Hand Point and say “Even though I have this cold, I know it’s my body’s way of giving me a message, maybe it just wants to me to slow down and take some time out. Or maybe it wants me to look after myself a bit more. Maybe I’ve just been doing to much and need to rest, nurture and love myself more. I deeply and completely love, accept and forgive myself and I am grateful to my body for giving me this message. Repeat this three times.
Move to the Eyebrow Point and tap gently around ten times saying “My body is giving me this message, I am grateful. I now choose to listen to my body and take good care of myself”.
Repeat this at all the tapping points finishing off with the Top of Your Head point.
Back to the Side of Hand Point and say, “Even though I have (state symptom), I deeply and completely love, accept and forgive myself and my body. I am now listening to my body’s messages”. Again, repeat this three times then tap round the points using the reminder phrase, “This symptom (whatever the symptom is, i.e. this blocked nose etc).
You can then do a round for each of your symptoms.
If you have heard your Guardian Angel or Spirit Guide, or listened to any of the loving, inspirational messages from the wonderful, high level spirit guides all around us these days, you’ll know that their messages are full of infinite love, gentleness, endless understanding, compassion and limitless patience.
They are with us always, in all ways. They never judge us. We may have travelled the same path trying to reach a different destination, through many lifetimes. They never complain, criticise, belittle, or judge us. They travel with us. They are by our sides, loving us unconditionally with infinite patience, gentleness and love throughout all eternity.
How does that compare with the way we treat our bodies?
What if you are your body’s spirit guide?
Do you speak to your body the way our spirit guides speak to us?
Do you show your body infinite love, gentleness, patience, understanding and compassion? If you do, I applaud you.
Many of us, myself included, realise the power our emotions, words and thoughts have on our bodies and try to live accordingly. But even then, we can set up very subtle inner conflict that we are unaware of.
If you have ever said “how long will this healing take?”, you have actually disrespected your body’s healing process with your impatience. I know I am guilty of that one!
If you have ever said “I should be over this by now!”, you are disrespecting your body’s healing process.
If you have ever said “I should have let this go by now!”, you are disrespecting your body’s healing process.
These may be very subtle, but they are judgements and they set up inner conflict.
If you were your body’s spirit guide would you speak to your body the way you do?
You are the spark of divine consciousness that heals your body. Not with force, judgement, shame, guilt or belittlement. But with infinite love, gentleness, patience, understanding and compassion.

I deeply and completely love and thank my immune system”. “My immune system is powerful, wise and strong.
I am grateful to my fantastic immune system and I deeply and completely love, accept and thank my wonderful immune system for keeping me safe and healthy”. “My immune system is doing the most fantastic job protecting me from all those viruses and bacteria and I deeply and completely love, accept and thank my amazing immune system, thank you, immune system, for everything you do for me”.
What Was Going On The Last Time You Were At Your Ideal Weight?
Your Body Might Be Trying To Stop It Happening Again!
A few years ago in my Emotional Freedom Technique Practice, I specialised in helping people with weight issues. I was fascinated by the various, sometimes complex, reasons we hold on to excess weight.
It’s now widely known that putting on and carrying excess weight can be a protective reaction to trauma regardless of what weight you were when the trauma happened. Using E.F.T. it is a fairly simple matter to clear the feelings and emotions around the trauma and allow the body to come back into balance.
Holding on to excess weight can be a reaction to a happy memory.
What is less well- known is that holding on to excess weight can also be a reaction to a happy memory. A skilled E.F.T. practitioner should be able to help you untangle and heal those feelings and emotions too.
Your body is trying to protect you.
Another, less well-known, aspect of why we hold on to excess weight is that something traumatic happened when you were last at your ideal weight and your body is trying to protect you from it happening again. This can be quite complex to unravel, especially if the trauma is deeply hidden.
One lady I worked with, we’ll call her Sally, used a well-known national weight loss plan and had great success up to a point. That point was 11st 11 lbs and she simply could not get past it! It was like a brick wall that she just could not get over.
Despite following the weight loss plan to the letter, she could never get beyond 11st 11lbs! That was when she turned to me for help.
After a bit of exploratory work and a lot of tapping, I asked what had been going on in her life when she was last at her ideal weight. She told me she was at college, she loved her course, had a great social life and a loving relationship. Everything had been wonderful. It seemed we’d hit another dead end.
The ‘perfect’ boyfriend had been unfaithful!
We kept tapping, but nothing I tried resonated with her. All of a sudden she exclaimed, “Oh My God! Now I remember”. A deeply hidden memory suddenly surfaced. She remembered discovering the ‘perfect’ boyfriend had been unfaithful and she, in a fit of misery, had taken a bottle of whisky and walked into the sea one night. Nothing traumatic there then???
Once we had discovered this memory, it was fairly straight forward to clear the emotions and trauma from it with E.F.T.
She reached her ideal weight.
After clearing the emotions around that memory and maintaining the same weight loss regime, she flew easily beyond the dreaded 11st 11lbs and reached her ideal weight.
Another lady I worked with had a similar experience. The last time she’d been at her ideal weight, she’d become pregnant and as a single mother struggled to survive financially. There was no way she wanted to go back to that! Again, clearing the emotional traumas surrounding that experience, cleared the way for her to go on to achieve her ideal weight.
Will power, exercise and strict diets are just not going to cut it.
In cases like these, will power, exercise and strict diets are just not going to cut it because your body, in its wisdom, is trying to protect you. Which brings me back to my favourite saying, “Your body is not your enemy, it is always, always doing the very best it can to protect you”.
“I just wasn’t hungry any longer.I had used your Food meditation the other night for the first time (I always feel guilty about food choices even if all I’ve had is a bagel lol and I find it difficult to know when I’m full, etc.).
Well this morning I laid out my breakfast and was happily eating it and then with about 3/4 of it done, I suddenly decided I didn’t want anymore, I just wasn’t hungry any longer. This might seem very normal for most people but that doesn’t happen to me.
I was very surprised and pleased! Just wanted you to know how effective your meditations are.
