The “Why” questions are a method of bridging from the releasing statements to the positive affirmations. It could otherwise be too large a jump for people to go straight in to really feeling the positive. It is also a way to get around the mind saying “yes but..” to a positive affirmation. There is a very different energy around the “Why” statements, try it for yourself, you will probably feel it. For example if you say “I am abundant” your mind will probably jump to the reasons you are not abundant, “I’ve got this debt/I haven’t got any money” that kind of thing. If on the other hand you say “Why am I so abundant?” the mind tends to go to the things you are abundant in, love, friends, pets, health etc. There is less resistance to the “Why” statements and they help to lead you in to the positive. I hope this helps.

A few people tried making a positive affirmation then asking a question and felt the difference in the energy between the two. People who initially thought it would be a negative thing tried it out and realised that far from being negative, it opens us up to the many blessings we actually do have in our lives. It helps us see what is going right for us. In the case of physical healing, it reminds us of all the parts of our bodies which are working beautifully.

A few years ago in my Emotional Freedom Technique Practice, I specialised in helping people with weight issues. I was fascinated by the various, sometimes complex, reasons we hold on to excess weight.

It’s now widely known that putting on and carrying excess weight can be a protective reaction to trauma. Using E.F.T. it is a fairly simple matter to clear the feelings and emotions around the trauma and allow the body to come back into balance.

What is less well- known is that holding on to excess weight can also be a reaction to a happy memory. A skilled E.F.T. practitioner should be able to help you untangle and heal those feelings and emotions too.

Another, less well-known, aspect of why we hold on to excess weight is that something traumatic happened when you were last at your ideal weight. This can be quite complex to unravel, especially if the trauma is deeply hidden.

One lady I worked with, we’ll call her Sally, used a well-known national weight loss plan and had great success up to a point. That point was 11st 11 lbs and she simply could not get past it! It was like a brick wall that she just could not get over.

Despite following the weight loss plan to the letter, she could never get beyond 11st 11lbs! That was when she turned to me for help.

After a bit of exploratory work and a lot of tapping, I asked what had been going on in her life when she was last at her ideal weight. She told me she was at college, she loved her course, had a great social life and a loving relationship. Everything had been wonderful. It seemed we’d hit another dead end.

We kept tapping, but nothing I tried resonated with her. All of a sudden she exclaimed, “Oh My God! Now I remember”. A deeply hidden memory suddenly surfaced. She remembered discovering the perfect boyfriend had been unfaithful and she, in a fit of misery, had taken a bottle of whisky and walked into the sea one night. Nothing traumatic there then???

It Takes Courage To Face Your Emotional Issues!

Physical pain often manifests to encourage you to do your emotional work. It takes courage to walk that path but the rewards can be immense and a happy side effect can be partial or total relief from physical pain!

Energy therapists and people who are used to viewing everything from an emotional standpoint can sometimes be guilty of overlooking just how much courage it can take for people who are new to this idea. I have looked at the world this way for so long that it is automatic for me to look for an emotional reason for everything that happens. I am definitely guilty of forgetting how different, strange and potentially scary this might be to others!

We in the West, have been programmed to look outside ourselves for someone, often a medical doctor, to ‘fix’ us.  It must seem very strange indeed to some people when they hear people like me suggesting they look inside themselves for the answers to their problems or pain.

I have gone from dragging myself across the floor every morning in complete agony and dosing myself up on painkillers, to being able to walk completely unaided and pain free and drug free. My family and friends have always known me to have a bad back. The condition has affected me since childhood. But over the last few months it became progressively worse until I was unable to walk unaided. Each morning I would crawl on my hands and knees to the living room, where I would lie on the floor waiting for strong prescribed pain medication to take effect. The medication always makes me drowsy and unable to drive or work as well as I would like to. I feel much better tonight mentally as well. A few days ago after moving my father in law to a nursing home, we had to clear out his apt. This is the apt I have taken care of him for almost a year. Clearing out his apt was filled with so many emotions. I developed almost debilitating left hip pain while moving his stuff out. Now two days later after cleaning up a day ago, I woke up with pain in the morning but my nightfall tonight, it is almost all gone. I was in so much pain I was crying and could only drag my leg around all yesterday. Even today earlier in the day, there was still intense pain at times. As an herbalist, I began to question if it was not emotional rather than overdoing it when moving the stuff out. I know it is. There was so much fear for the future since he was paying us to take care of him. So we have half the income we had but I know we will make it through, even though it is scary since we are 66 and 70. We had to put him in….we physically could not handle him. It was an abrupt change from 24 hours a day for weeks to none. Emotionally and physically I was a wreck trying to care for him in the last weeks. I feel much better tonight mentally as well. I have felt drained like being hit with a mack truck for weeks”. Just wanted you to know how the meditation for helping me and my stomach has begun to affect my behaviour. I realise I have a habit of internalising negative emotions and, in the spirit of ‘clearing all ways in which I have stored indigestable emotions’ found myself doing something I have never done before…… I think it’s simply called standing up for yourself!   Yesterday at work I felt I was unfairly treated and found myself nursing the emotional wound all night and even had a dream in which I did indeed stood up for myself. It was so perfect. One night recently my stomach was upset with anxiety about Pixie, my beloved kitty, who was undergoing surgery, and I listened to Barbara’s stomach mp3. It was so perfect. Rev. Anne Presuel.

It’s great to feel I can have a relationship with my own tummy and, like a mum, comfort it as I would a child. I just wanted to thank you for the Stomach tape. I am finding it so helpful. I have had tummy troubles for couple of years now, following two bereavements and then losing my job!

You may recall I was helped immensely by your guided meditation for releasing grief and trauma so I thought I would continue the healing process by freeing myself from needing the Omezrapole medication which I take for acid reflux.

It is early days yet but I listen to the meditation tape instead of taking the medication and I know my stomach is feeling the benefit of all the loving and liberating thoughts that I am sending it. It’s great to feel I can have a relationship with my own tummy and, like a mum, comfort it as I would a child.

I do continue to take medication if symptoms dictate and am grateful for that but it is wonderfully empowering to begin the self healing process.

“The “attack” if you will subsided and went away certainly as quickly (1/2 a minute) as the cold water. Hi Barbara, I’m a new subscriber 3/4 months, 76 years old, general health good, no medications. My most troubling health issue is skin/dermatology eg Brachioradial and probably Pruritus etc etc from mild to quite bothersome from time to time (every few days I have a good “flair” up). Prior to finding you web site I was treating my various skin conditions with various lotions and for the Brachioradial / on my arms the Best was very cold water for 4/5 minutes, actually brings immediate relief, lasting a few hours. Prior to finding your site I was using a Meditation app from Meditation Oasis and had been using it generally prior to going to bed/sleep a few times a week, I found it pretty good, but had no real long term experience a year or so with meditation. I’m sure I bumped into your site probably Googling around skin problems, issues etc etc etc. Subsequently I purchased your Beyond Affirmations most particularly Soothe Your Skin and also Healing For Your Heart.
I’d like to pass on a couple of my findings, most specifically to the Brachioradial (when it flares up it’s almost an attack) while having an “attack/itchiness/arms for what ever reason I decided instead of the cold water treatment I’d try your app, I actually used the the Relaxation and well being (15.58) introduction Meditation the “attack” if you will subsided and went away certainly as quickly (1/2 a minute) as the cold water. I’ve repeated this 20+ times in the past month eg works every time? Actually I find it more convenient than the long Soothe Your Skin, whatever works.
I wanted to pass this along because this Brachioradial can be a real problem for many seniors and there is very, very little the dermatologist really know about it or more importantly how to treat it (mine for certain is a pinched nerve in my cervical 5/6 disc). Anyway please pass along if anyone asks, one thing for certain trying what I did certainly can’t cause “any” harm. Mr G.K.

A lot of the pain in my neck and at the base of my skull had GONE! And that night I slept soundly which was wonderful as the previous two nights I’d hardly slept due to the agonising pain. For two days over the weekend just gone, I was in agony, I had severe pain in both sides of my neck and at the base of my skull, I thought it was due to a flare up of my fibromyalgia. So I put hot packs on my neck and took the max. dose of painkillers. I began to think I would have to see my chiropractor again!

And recently I’d left a job where I’d been bullied and was still holding onto a lot of resentment and unforgiveness towards my ex-colleagues and over the last few years many of the jobs I have undertaken, had left me feeling disappointed, hurt and lacking in confidence. This inner support system consists of the psychological and emotional beliefs that give our lives meaning and purpose.  It includes the emotional support of our loved ones or spiritual or religious convictions.  If any of that is taken away, doubted or questioned there is nothing left to hold us upright. This can happen when we are shocked, traumatised, betrayed or rejected and feel unable to stand alone.

Our ankles are essential in keeping us upright, therefore they may collapse when we can no longer stand it or when the weight is just too much to bear.

A Sprained or Twisted Ankle

Our ankles also allow us to be flexible. A sprained or twisted ankle, implies a lack of flexibility in the direction we are going. The strain is too much and causes the energy to buckle or twist, i.e. to go in all directions at once.

A Swollen Ankle

A swollen ankle indicates that you are holding emotional energy, frustration or resistance to letting go.

A Broken Ankle

A broken ankle indicates a very deep emotional conflict about the ground you are standing on. Perhaps you are resisting making a change in the direction of your life, questioning your beliefs or are afraid or unable to stand up for yourself. Ask yourself what does your broken ankle prevent you from doing and what does your broken ankle allow you do to?
